Forget Me Nots

Taking a little break from current events of the day,,,

Because I have an insanely variable taste in music, which I’ve long labeled “from the sublime to the ridiculous”, I have listened to a lot of different types of music over my lifetime.

The great Patrice Rushen

Without a doubt, at the top of the list is what’s commonly known as The Great American Songbook which for my money is the greatest of them all.

I love rock, country, jazz, smooth jazz, and funk for starters. Now this song doesn’t exactly fall into the last category as it’s more soul (which I also love, hello Al Greene) and pop but it was a major favorite of mine back in 1982.

The bassline in this song is absolutely from the funk genre only it’s more subtle given the tone of the song.

The song is called Forget Me Nots (lyrics below) by the great and underrated singer/songwriter Patrice Rushen from her great album Straight From the Heart.

I bought this album when it came out and the music is still fantastic.

Patrice Rushen - Number One (12" Version) | Jamaican music, Young gifted and black, Patrice

What spurred this was an excellent video from Julia Hofer from Thomann's Guitars & Basses headquartered in Germany where Julia demonstrates the amazing bass originally recorded by the great bass player “Ready” Freddie Washington.

Freddie Washington (bassist) - Alchetron, the free social encyclopedia

Even if you’re not into the playing side of things, Julia’s playing here is sensational.

Enjoy.

Bonus song from this same album Remind Me

Such a clean sound. Love it!

Forget Me Nots Lyrics

[Chorus]
Sending you forget me nots
To help you to remember
Baby, please forget me not
I want you to remember

Sending you forget me nots
To help you to remember
Baby, please forget me not
I want you to remember

[Verse 1]
Those were the times we had
Sharing a joy that we thought would last
Memories of love and affection
Never really was just like a dream
Was it the simple things
That made me so crazy about you
Was it your charm or your passion
It's not hard to believe
I love you and I need you so I'm
[Chorus]
Sending you forget me nots
To help you to remember
Baby, please forget me not
I want you to remember
Sending you forget me nots
To help you to remember
Baby, please forget me not
I want you to remember

[Verse 2]
Did we give up too soon?
Maybe we needed just a little room
Wondering how it all happened
Maybe we just need a little time
Though we did end as friends
Given the chance we could love again
She'll always love you forever
It's not hard to believe
I want you and I need you so I'm

[Chorus]
Sending you forget me nots
To help you to remember
Baby, please forget me not
I want you to remember
Sending you forget me nots (Forget me nots)
To help you to remember
Baby, please forget me not (Forget me not)
I want you to remember

[Instrumental Break]

[Bridge]
Sending you forget me nots
Baby, please forget me not

Good times we had (Sending you forget me nots)
They weren't so bad
What a life we shared (Baby, please forget me not)
Pretty baby, I still care

[Chorus]
Sending you forget me nots
To help you to remember
Baby, please forget me not
I want you to remember
Sending you forget me nots
To help you to remember (Help you to remember)
